WARNING: I dont take any responsiblity of any accident to any of you who want to do this work using below instruction.

So here I am, thinking about to change the look of my bow. After breakfast I straight away heading to paint shop to buy some spray paint (flat black), also paint removal and sand paper (#1000 and #1500). It cost me roughly around rm20.

12.24: The first thing I did is removing all accessories from the bow, it’s done in just few minutes.

12:52: Start my work on removing the old finishing on the riser. As there are no warning on the can, at first I thought this is normal type of thinner, but I was wrong. It’s highly acidic! I opened the cap, it’s popping out due to the pressure from the inside and splashed few drop on my back and I can feel it burning my skin straight away (and I also looking for water straight away. LOL!). Just take a look at the picture below. As it’s explain better.

The best way to apply it on the riser are using paint brush. Don’t forget to wear safety goggle during this process, I did as I don’t want to take any risk after got the lesson. Here’s the affect after few minutes.

I Try to remove it until you get 100% clean but there are few spots which very difficult to remove. The solution, using sand paper (#1000). I sanded it down until I satisfied with the result. Done my paint removing work around 14.55 and after that I clean it with liquid soap, wipe it using tissue paper and left it dry under the sun for sometimes.

Get ready for painting work at 15.16.

What I did is follow the instruction on the spray can, apply thin layer on the surface and left it for about 10 minutes before spray another layer. But I did only 2 layers, the first thin layer and second the finishing layer as I only bought 1 can of spray. It should be better if I apply 3 layers at least and I should buy 2 cans of spray instead of one.

Done my painting work around 15.35, and the rest is left dry. I move it inside the house as I want to left it overnight to make sure the paint are fully dry. Assemble everything the next day.

Our FITA target shooting range

Since the weather are uncertain this week, and our field archery range are wet due to the rain on night before, we decide to practice FITA target 70m at PEMASA Miri archery range. This archery range are provided by Sarawak Archery Association (PEMASA), it's giving a lot of benefit to Mirian archers especially junior archers to shoot FITA outdoor at full distance (90m, 70m, 50m, 30m). The location of this archery range are just next to tennis court, in sport village.

Today we have another member who's interested to involve in archery and soon he will get himself a Mathews Monster! Couldn't wait to see first Monster at our shooting range!

Shooting in the rain

Here we go again for another field archery shooting on Saturday, June 27. This time we already have field archery target face and also animal target face which we ordered from Altservices about 2 weeks ago, and arrived on Tuesday. Unfortunately, we have to shoot in the rain about 2 hours this time but that's not bad! we really enjoy shooting in the rain as well, it's just we don't feel much confortable as I myself didn't bring my spare shirt and pant. So here are the pictures from yesterday shooting and videos to be upload on youtube tomorrow. Cheers!

Our 5 targets completed!

Well, all of us are happy today for completing our jobs working on setting up all 5 targets at the field. We start our works with cutting the bamboo for distance marking, set a distance (22m-flat, 26m-up hill, 16m-down hill, 50m-flat and 30m-down hill, followed by put some support/stand for target butts - we're just cutting log available at the area and cut it about 3 feets. I also missing one of my arrow shooting at 50m target-testing round.
I've include some pictures and video
for everyone out there to we what we're doing today. Unfortunately, we don't have chance to take a picture on target number 5 due to raining.

Setting up our field archery

Good news, today our group spent the whole day try to setup our field archery and so far we manage to place 5 target butts at designated location and 1 already secured in place. hopefully by next week, all 5 targets will secure in place and we will able to shoot at the same day just to give a try. We are happy enough to have those 5 target in place for now and in the future we'll sure to add more until meet the FITA standard with 12 targets at our field. Basically, picture below are simple sketch of our field setup.

Miri Field Archery

On last weekend, Saturday (June 6th, 2009) we have spotted the best location for field archery, which is located about 18km from Miri city. On the next day (Sunday), we start our work doing target butts and we managed to complete 5 targets butts in one day. By this weekend, we will carry all target butts to the site and setup our new field archery.

Just for info, field archery are different than target archery. In field archery, target are setup in the jungle area and archers will need to shoot up hill, down hill, depends on the earth surface and the distance are from 5m to 60m. Meanwhile for target archery, archers need to shoot 4 distance, 90m, 70m, 50m and 30m and the most suitable place to setup target archery are football pitch.

MIRI ARCHERY

This blog created to introduced archery sports to public and to update all archery activities in Miri. For introduction, Our state has archery association which is known as PEMASA or Persatuan Memanah Sarawak (Sarawak Archery Association) and in Miri, we have our own branch called PEMASA-MIRI. Our training ground for target archery are located at sport village, just next to Tennis center.
